Surfing with a Purpose - 2008
Join Danny and your friends in Nicaragua for a combined surfing/mission trip and an unforgettable experience this summer!
Surfing with a Purpose adventure trips are for surfers who want to blend their love for surfing with their love for people. Typical trips are 9 to 10 days, with one or two days of the trip devoted to helping a local family or community. Work sessions are performed according to needs, and include such projects as installing concrete floors in dirt floor homes, building school rooms, home repairs, and one big project even included providing a drinking water well for a community that was getting their water from a mud hole (La Pita). Projects may also include providing shoes, clothing, food, medicine, and hope where needed. The other trip days are devoted to adventure, incredible surf, fellowship, and fun. We usually surf every day, including the work days, so you will get plenty of surfing time! When do the trips run? The schedule for 2008 is as follows:
Surfing with a Purpose surfing/mission trips are for those who want more out of their trip than just surfing. These trips offer an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. Not only will you experience a close level of companionship with your fellow travelers, but you will enjoy interactions with local people that you are not likely to experience on a regular tourist-type surfing trip.
We encourage father and son teams as well as young surfers (16 or older) who are searching to define their place in life. Non-surfers will also enjoy the adventure. Aspiring photographers and video enthusiast will find plenty of photographic opportunity. Trips are limited to 5 travelers per session. How much does it cost? The session package costs $480, which is due when you finalize your trip reservation. This price includes transfers to/from the airport, daily travel to surf locations, and accommodations. It does not include your airfare, food, mission work, or a canopy tour. We go to local area restaurants for meals. Approximate meal costs are: breakfast - $2, lunch - $5, dinner - $6. Danny and his driver, Noel, will meet you at the Managua airport upon arrival and get you back for your return flight at the end of your session. The drive from Managua to Las Salinas, located on the Pacific Coast near Rivas, takes approximately 2.5 hours. Accommodations in Las Salinas are basic but comfortable. This part of Nicaragua is quite rural and very poor. There are not any fancy motels or condominiums like you are use to seeing in Florida. In fact, the nearest significant grocery store is 2 hours away in Rivas. You will need to arrange your own air transportation, but Danny will supply you with travel dates and other information you need to simplify the process. Air fare to Managua typically costs about $385 to $425 from Miami, FL. Click here for the reservation sign-up form. Click send e-mail to contact Danny if you have questions concerning a trip.
