Return to Costa Rica - May 2005 - Nosara - Page 2 of 4
The Nosara Beach Hotel is a landmark in Nosara. It is
impressive. Construction began in the 1970's. So I am told, the plans
are all in the owner's head (there are no blueprints!). I was also told
that on several occasions, when the owner didn't like the way something
turned out, he blew it up and rebuilt it. You can detect some symbolism
about this in the wall murals shown below. The view from the dome where
the people are sitting is absolutely spectacular. I went up there each
morning for the sunrise and each evening for the sunset. When will the
hotel be finished? That is a good question for the owner. He was due
back from Greece the day after I left, so I didn't get to meet him.
The hotel owner has also built many of the area's private homes as well
as the La Luna Restaurant shown later in this article. He has built
some very impressive houses.

The atmosphere in Nosara is very relaxed. During the
heat of the day, I sat in the area just below the lookout dome at the
hotel and read a novel. The view from up there takes in the entire coast,
and it also gets a nice breeze. Midday is pretty warm in Costa Rica,
so I usually didn't surf between 10 AM and 2 PM. First light occurred
at about 4:45 AM, and by 5:00 AM it was time to check out the view from
the dome and then head for the surf. Around 8:30 AM we came in for coffee
and breakfast at a really good bakery a short walk down the hill from
the hotel.
