Return to Nosara, Costa Rica - Aug 2005 - Page 2 of 2

Not much has changed since we were there in May of this year. The hotel is still in-progress (as someone who was there in 1978 mentioned). But I did see a lot of new window frames and some fresh concrete, so progress is happening.

Lots of nice flowers, strange creatures, and good food. No bugs except for a few ants and moths with 8" wingspans.

I finally caught her with a smile! She always runs off when she sees me coming with my camera. I don't know why, since she is super cute.

I think these two girls are sisters. The younger one (in the picture just above) is 18. As you can see, she is real cute and has captivating eyes. These girls are camera shy, but I keep trying. I got a good shot here. I took them 5" by 7" prints of their best shots from the last trip. I think they liked those, but since the only Spanish I know is "donde Nosara" (where is Nosara), I am clueless as to what they like.

The price started at $60 for 2 pots and ended at $60 for 4 pots, but the girls worked on it for 40 minutes to get there. In May, I ran into this same guy just before dark on a hot day when he didn't sell anything, and bought 2 pots for $20 in 5 minutes. I think these pots are made locally. They are very pretty, but I wouldn't count on them holding water. Oh yes, I had to throw in my wristwatch this time also.

This is Rio Montana. In 1998, it was up several feet and blocked our path to Nosara in a Rav 4. The water level was much lower this day, and it was just a trickle back in May. If you are coming down the coastal road from Tamarindo, Rio Montana can give you a 5 hour detour in a small vehicle after heavy rains. Always try walking the rivers first if you don't know what you are going through. If there are crocodiles, just take the detour.

Nosara is a driftwood collectors paradise!

Fun size surf! Waves come down real fast out there. Lots of short ride, but a few really long ones to.

Allison, the CFLsurf Surf Girl of the month for May, is still there! It looks like she got a new board to. You can see her blonde hair glowing in the sunlight from half a mile away.

Our favorite lunch spot was the Smoothie Shop. It was kind of dark in there so I didn't get a good shot, but this gal is real cute and very nice. She teaches school locally and makes great smoothies on the side. Try the Pinada - pineapple/coconut. Bring your own bottled water since they use tap water. They freeze the fruits instead of using ice. It's 1000 Colones (about $2.00 US) for a big smoothie. They make a good lunch in the heat!

Ah .. what a treat... SUNSET over the ocean instead of SUNRISE over the ocean. I think I'll be going back here again.
