The Final Wave
Twas Sunday morn at six o'clock
when awakened by the roar
of giant waves smashing down
upon the seaside's shore
I jumped from bed in disbelief
how could such giants be
and ran out to the eastern deck
that overlooks the sea
My gosh I said and gasped in awe
at what came to my eye
row after row of giant waves
some more than twelve feet high
but what amazed me most of all
and I swear this is no lie
the Final Wave far out to sea
reached up to touch the sky
I yelled to all my surfing friends
wake up your sleeping hide
the Final Wave is on its way
wake up or miss the ride
and then I ran to get my board
and headed for the door
and right behind came all my friends
off towards the seaside's shore
I dove into the ocean's broth
and paddled through the brine
right over top those 12 foot swells
with just one thought in mind
I paddled hard with long deep strokes
until my arms went numb
no stopping now not for one sec
the Final Wave has come
When the sound of thunder filled my ears
I looked up high to see
an endless wall of churning foam
was crashing down towards me
around I turned and gave my all
this was the only way
either catch this wave and ride it out
or drown here in the bay
As though a jet were taking off
just behind my head
that wall of churning water roared
as down its face I sped
like sliding down a mountain slope
I bounced and slid and cried
but I beat that foamy churning brine
and I beat St. Peter's ride
Up on my knees, then to my feet
I crouched low on my board
and shot across that Final Wave
while I thanked my lord
but looking inward towards the shore
I knew I might yet die
cause right before me loomed Twin Towers
reaching upward towards the sky
I knew I had a single chance
so I quickly cut hard right
between those towers I must shoot
or be crushed by this waves might
So I stepped up to my surfboards nose
and did a hanging-five
you may think that's quite funny now
but I was tryin to stay alive
Across the wave and through the foam
with the towers looming tall
I shot the curl and headed in
and prayed I wouldn't fall
but as I passed the southern tower
some seaweed snagged my fin
twas then I knew the Final Wave
was going to do me in
Down the wave my body slid
like a ton of solid lard
then with a bump I hit my head
on something awfully hard
twas then I heard my mother yell
get up off the floor
tis time for school you dreamin bum
grab your books and hit the door
So that's the story how I rode
the Final Wave that day
perhaps it was a dream, could be
but listen up I say
cause as I rode the bus to school
and I swear this is no lie
I looked out the window and saw a wave
that reached up to touch the sky.
